A friendly owl holding a pencil

Little words. Big giggles.

Help the animals finish their jokes, then find the wordplay hiding inside.

Six rounds. Take your time, use a hint, or read with a partner.

The game needs JavaScript. You can still explore the animal pun guide or try the wordplay activities.

How to play

  1. Choose the word that completes the animal's joke.
  2. Choose the explanation that shows why the pun works.
  3. Read the word discovery, then meet the next animal.

Each game picks six different puns from a set of ten. There is no timer. Use a hint, try another choice or reveal an answer whenever you need a hand. Read with a partner if any words are new to you.

Two ways words can be playful

Some puns use words that sound alike, such as paws and pause. Others use one word with different meanings: bark can be a dog sound or the outside of a tree. Say the words aloud and talk about the connection.

The animals and their adventures are make-believe. If a sound-alike pair sounds different in your accent, explore the explanation together.

Keep the wordplay going
