Wihout a doubt, the Ostrich has to be one of the goofiest birds on the planet. With it's bald head, long neck, and giant scruffy feathers it doesn't look that special, but these facts will surprise you.

  • The Ostrich is bigger than any other bird in the world. They can grow up to 9 feet (2.7 M) tall and can weigh up to 320 Lbs (145 KG). 
  • Ostrich's eyes are 2 inches (5 cm) in diameter. The largest of any land animal!
  • An ostrich’s brain is smaller than its eye - it would hardly fill a teaspoon.
  • Their giant eggs are the largest of any living bird at  6inches (15cm) long and weighing as much as two dozen chicken eggs, but they're actually the smallest eggs relative to the size of the adult bird.
  • Ostriches have three stomachs!
  • Ostriches are the fast two-legged animal and can sprint at over 45 miles/hr (70 km/hr), covering up to 16 feet (5m) in a single stride.
  • Ostriches have powerful legs and only two clawed toes. One strong kick can kill a Lion!
  • During the mating season, males roar like lions.
